New Year’s Joy: Four Souls Baptized at GIDI Kolose Congregation in Wamena

Wamena, January 2, 2025 — Praise the Lord! On the very first day of the new year, GIDI Kolose Congregation in Wamena celebrated a joyful and historic moment by holding a holy baptism service for four individuals who had professed their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. This sacred event marked a clear sign of the spiritual growth taking place within this newly established congregation. Though just over a year old, GIDI Kolose continues to burn with zeal for ministry. The baptism ceremony was filled with joy and held during the 2025 New Year’s service, led by GIDI President Rev. Usman Kobak at the GIDI Jerusalem Congregation in Wamena. The event was witnessed by the congregation and families from across the Balim Valley Classis who came to celebrate together. In his sermon and ministry, Rev. Kobak emphasized that baptism is not merely a symbol, but an act of faith — a declaration of repentance and a commitment to a new life in Christ. He also encouraged the church community to continually pray for and walk alongside the newly baptized members, helping them grow deeply rooted in the Word and remain faithful in their calling. "Today we witness God’s love and grace clearly at work in this congregation. Though still young, God is already growing new seeds of faith. Our responsibility is to nurture and guide them in love," he said. The four baptized individuals were young people who had previously undergone months of spiritual formation and basic Bible teaching. This process was part of the congregation’s serious effort to ensure that every baptism decision is made with full awareness and spiritual understanding. The baptism ceremony was celebrated joyfully by the entire congregation through songs of praise and intercessory prayers, making it a hopeful and spirit-filled beginning to the new year. With these new souls committing their lives to the Lord, GIDI Kolose believes that God will continue to expand His work among them, bringing light and transformation to their growing community.
